A leadership training session held the weekend of April 5-6 at Noble View Camp got rave reviews from participants who learned about topics such as trip planning, risk management (both on and off the trail) and the group life cycle process.
Twenty-two people attended the two full days of training, including five people who were already leaders who wanted a refresher course. Sessions included discussion of decision-making, hypothermia, trail head talks and screening participants. Each day was capped by a hike that included scripted (and some not-so-scripted) role plays in which participants took on the roles of leader, co-leader, participant, and scenario catalyst. The role plays gave leaders-in-training hands-on experience in handling the real life experiences that come up leading hikes.
The next training is set for Nov. 1-2, the Big Berkshire Bash weekend, and everyone is invited to attend, including existing leaders who want to improve their leadership skills. The event will include a car-pool trip up to the Bash for those who are interested. Overnight lodging is available at Noble View. Details about how to register will be available on this Web site, in Outdoors magazine and in the Berkshire Exchange.
