The Student Conservation Association, in partnership with the Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees), will be hosting a volunteer work day at The Trustees’ Little Tom property on Saturday, May 15th, 2010. The property and its trails, which will be open to the public in 2012, will eventually connect to the existing trail system at DCR’s Mount Tom State Reservation, allowing hikers and runners a view of the vernal pool at the top of Little Mt. Tom.
The volunteer event will take place from 10am-3pm and involves a 1.5 mile hike to the worksite. It will be important to arrive exactly at 10 so that we can hike to the site together. Arrangements might be possible for volunteers who cannot arrive exactly at that time. A majority of the work will consist of clearing and cutting new trail – a job for which we can never have enough hands!
All tools will be provided. Please wear long pants and leather boots. Bring work gloves, a water bottle, snacks and lunch. Some water and snacks will also be provided during the work day.
At the end of the work day, we’re preparing a small barbecue with vegetarian and regular hot dogs, fresh fruit, and other refreshments. Feel free to bring something that you’d like to contribute to the meal.
We will be working rain or shine! Come prepared!
