This Year's Speaker
Our featured speaker, Ed Webster, is a Massachusetts native, and aside from being an award-winning mountaineer he is also an author, lecturer, publisher, and photojournalist. He is an acknowledged expert on the history of Mount Everest, including George Mallory and Tenzing Norgay. He has received multiple awards, including the American Alpine Club's 1994 David H. Soules Award for saving the life of a fellow climber. His 1988 Everest Kangshung Face new route, climbed with Robert Anderson (USA), Paul Teare (Canada), and Stephen Venables (UK), has been hailed as the last of the great Everest expeditions, and one of the most audacious mountaineering feats of all time. The group wanted to summit the world's tallest mountain in the absolute purest and best style they could - up a never-before-attempted route, with no bottled supplementary oxygen, without using radios, and with no Sherpa assistance.

Directions to Summit View House:

Take Exit 18 on I-91 and proceed to end of the ramp. At the end of the ramp take a right onto Rt. 5 South. Follow for approximately five miles and Summit View will be on your right.
