Are you looking for great local things to do, and new activities to try? Please come and see what AMC Berkshire is all about, or come see old friends!

It's all happening on Saturday, March 23 at 6 PM at the Florence Civic Center at 90 Park Street in the center of Florence (directions). We’ll check out this historic building and setting, new to us. Ideally, we'll get a chance to socialize outdoors on the lovely wrap-around porch. We’ll have trip leaders and committee tables to show members and visitors alike where we’ve been, and show how you can get out on the trails, rivers, lakes, and mountains around us. There will also be folks from the Appalachian Trail Committee and Noble View Outdoor Center to talk about the fun of getting involved with trail work and outdoor education.

Gary Forish receives the Distinguished Service Award

This year there were three recipients of the Distinguished Service Award. The first went to Gary Forish for his many contributions to the AMC through the years. Gary is a former chair of the Berkshire Chapter and a tireless advocate for the Noble View Outdoor Center. This award was also given to AMC’s Youth Opportunity Program (YOP) in appreciation of their 45 years of getting young people out of the cities and into nature. The third was awarded to John 'Noel' Cotter.

You can also access the AMC Clubwide Awards on Outdoors.org, which contains the full list of award recipients for 2012.

The evening's keynote speaker was Audrey Peterman, who spoke with the goal of helping the AMC come up with a plan to get ALL Americans to appreciate the outdoors.

AMC Annual Meeting – Berkshire Bash

Berkshire Chapter's Annual Meeting was held Saturday, November 3rd at the Summit View Restaurant in Holyoke MA.

The Annual Meeting portion was short – we voted on officers and gave a few awards to deserving individuals. Jim Pelletier was presented with a certificate designating him as 'Appie of the Year' by outgoing Chair Dave Sauriol.

Shortly afterwards Dave presented Congressman Olver with the first ever 'Friend of the AMC' award for all he has done for the outdoors in Western Massachusetts.

After dinner, there was a presentation of the Wildlife Encounters environmental education show by The W.I.L.D. Center and Zoological Park of New Hampshire.
