The AMC Adventure Travel Leadership Training Program was a tremendous success! It was held in Litchfield, Connecticut on November 18-20, 2011. The trainers were a wealth of information for the participants – having over 80 years combined experience leading Adventure Travel for the AMC. The participants also brought significant experience to the training, most having led many Chapter trips for the Club for a number of years. For more information on AMC’s Adventure Travel program, please see www.outdoors.org/adventuretravel.

The Appalachian Mountain Club’s (AMC) Berkshire Chapter reports significant progress toward ensuring the long-term protection and maintenance of the Massachusetts portion of the New England National Scenic Trail, commonly known as the New England Trail (NET). In addition to important volunteer efforts and other key accomplishments on the trail in 2010, the AMC has hired a NET Planner to oversee management and administration of the trail in Massachusetts.
A child under age 18 may participate in any chapter trip if the following three conditions are met:
We do have some requirements trip leaders must fulfill (PDF), in order to make sure that leaders are qualified and prepared for possible problems. These requirements are pretty flexible and reasonable, however. We’ll do a lot to help you meet them and get any training you might need or want.
Our volunteer leaders are the lifeblood of the chapter. (We’re including leaders of hiking/paddling/climbing/etc. trips, trail maintenance work parties, social events, and all the other things we do when we say this.) If you’re an active leader, well, thanks! If you’re not, please consider becoming one and sharing your skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm with others.
