Whitewater

Strainer on Otter Brook

On December 3, 2006, Bob Jackson reported a strainer on the Class 3 section of Otter Brook, about a quarter-mile upstream of the take-out. He says a 1.5- to 2-foot diameter tree is lying entirely across the river, with no way to paddle around it. Paddlers, be careful!

Whitewater River Ratings (Revised)

This is a tongue-in-cheek take on the standard river difficulty scale.

Thus, the interviewer was inspired to offer this International Scale of River Difficulty:

Whitewater River Ratings

Whitewater paddling rivers are rated as Class 1 through Class 6 according to their difficulty and the severity of the “consequences” ensuing from a mistake.
