Berkshire Chapter Seeking New NET Trails Committee Chair

pat fletcher

Our New England Trail (NET) Committee works to ensure the protection and promotion of the NET for the enjoyment of current and future generations. This is done through a combination of maintenance work and public advocacy. The committee is led by a chairperson elected to a one-year term by members of the Berkshire Chapter at our Annual Meeting each November.

The NET Committee Chair is a volunteer position. The chair works with AMC staff and volunteer leaders to identify, prioritize, and plan projects on the NET, and to set and lead an annual calendar of meetings and projects. The chair and/or other committee members monitor project progress and report to Berkshire Chapter and AMC staff as needed. The chair is also responsible for monitoring budget needs and making the appropriate requests to the AMC and to the Berkshire Chapter. The NET Committee Chair serves on the Berkshire Chapter Executive Committee, is the primary point of contact for the NET amongst the Berkshire Chapter, and represents the NET volunteers to the membership and management of the Appalachian Mountain Club.

The chair must be a current member of the Berkshire Chapter and a qualified AMC work party leader. They must possess the relevant skills and experience to perform the duties of the position, ideally with a solid background in trail operating, maintenance and monitoring.

Current NET Committee Chair Pat Fletcher says:

“I have been Trails Chair for a long time, and it is time for new blood. The next NET Chair will not be alone - the trails community do a wonderful job maintaining the trail, and there are also AMC staff dedicated to the NET who provide abundant help and support. I knew nothing about trails and trail work when I volunteered for this role years ago, and I’ve been rewarded beyond my wildest dreams.”
