Of especial interest to club members in their 20s and 30s.

WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING

Learn how to manage an emergency in the backcountry from SOLO and their instructors. This two day course covers standard emergency situations and the care of the sick and injured in a wilderness setting. The emphasis is on patient assessment, care and evacuation. The fee covers course instruction and material: $130 for AMC Members and $165 for non AMC members. CPR is available Saturday evening for an additional $40 fee. Camping is also available Saturday night at a fee of $20. Space is limited and preference is given to active Berkshire Chapter leaders.

Training emphasizes: group dynamics, leaders' responsibilities, trip planning/management, weather emergencies, incident/accident scene management, leader awareness, diversity/equity/inclusion and decision-making.

18th Annual AT Volunteer Gathering

Join us for our Annual AT Volunteer Gathering!

If you already volunteer or are interested in volunteering with the Massachusetts Appalachian Trail Maintainers come over and meet with all of our volunteers. We will recap what we have done this past year, future plans, gear swap, as well as breakout sessions!

The gathering will be on February 1st, 2020 9 AM- 2 PM at the Taconic High School 96 Valentine Rd, Pittsfield, MA

Leave No Trace Workshop at Stanley Park, Westfield MA

Do you enjoy the outdoors and want to learn more about how to protect the outdoor places you love? Join us for a Leave No Trace Workshop, led by the Appalachian Mountain Club, focusing on fostering stewardship through our own practices in the outdoors. We will spend an hour hiking on the beautiful trails in Stanley Park, periodically stopping along the way to discuss the 7 principals of Leave No Trace. This is an interactive course, with users encouraged to bring fresh perspectives and questions for conversation surrounding sustainable habits in the outdoors.

With half of the autumn leaves still on the trees and the other half covering our path ahead, we all gathered by our cars. Some of us put on our gloves, and some of us wished that we had brought gloves; the cold fall weather came quickly. We exchanged names (and repeated them a few times for memory), reviewed our plan for the day, and then we began our hike.
